So you wanna make your own Fithian shirt? That’s cool. We would tell you to grab an old T-shirt, and you can, but remember: You’re rep’ing Breakaway. This might be cause to splurge on a brand-new $5 T-shirt at Wal-Mart. But whatever works.
GET
• iron
• iron-on transfer paper for your printer (Split a pack with some buds to cut the cost.)
• countertop
• white or light-colored T-shirt
• your computer
• your printer
• yourself
DO
No. 1: Download the Fithian graphic.
No. 2: Empty your iron of water and let it heat up.
No. 3: Insert iron-on transfer paper into your printer. (Check the feed ahead of time to ensure you print on the correct side.) You won’t need to flip the image; we’ve already done that for you. Print. Trim around the image, leaving a small border.
No. 4: Let your new decal cool.
No. 5: Clear a spot on a counter. Lay your T-shirt out smooth and flat. Place the decal facedown on the upper right-hand quadrant. (See picture.)
No. 6: Follow the directions that come with your iron-on transfer paper. You’ll most likely press the iron firmly (using both hands) on the decal for 10-seconds and continue doing so until you’ve covered the entire image twice.
No. 7: Choose a corner and slowly peel the decal up. Take a peek. If the image didn’t fully transfer, make sure your iron is still hot. Repeat step 6.
Let your T-shirt cool before trying it on or you might get some weird looks at the beach next summer. And remember: If you see a stranger on the street wearing a Fithian shirt, by all means, hang out with him. But use the buddy system when doing so. Safety first, bro.
And FYI . . .
We’ll swap you: a pic of you sporting your new Fithian shirt for 10 seconds of fame. (Send it to breakaway@family.org.) Seriously, we’ll put your pic in the mag or on the Web at some point. But not right now. We’re busy making our own Fithian shirts.}
