ALL ROADS LEAD TO GOD?
If Jesus is the only way to heaven, are all other religions wrong?

by Lane Palmer

What would you think if your teacher began the next math class by saying, “Good morning, students. Today I want to introduce a new way to do addition, multiplication, subtraction and division. I know you have always thought that 2 + 2 = 4, 5 - 5 = 0, 3 x 3 = 9 and so on, but I think it is arrogant and rude of us to think that there is only one way to do math. Why can't 2 + 2 = 5 if we really really sincerely believe it?”

I'm thinking that you would be thinking that he’d pretty much lost his mind, right? After all, there is only one way to do math. 2 + 2 will always equal 4, just as 5 - 5 will always equal 0.

It's called absolutes. There are some things in this universe that are absolutely true regardless of whether you believe them or not. For example: You can stand on railroad tracks while a train speeds your way and have all the faith in the world that you'll come out undamaged. However, because of an absolute truth called “train is bigger than you,” you're going to end up flatter than a pancake and looking very much like a grease spot if you don't move.

And if something is true, then the opposite is false, right? If 2 + 2 = 4, then 2 – 2 = 4 can't be right. Neither can 2 + 2 = 5. Those formulas contradict each other. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that when things contradict each other, they can't all be correct.

But when it comes to the most important and critical subject in the universe, your eternal soul, many normally rational and logical people decide to check their brains at the door. They know that when two or more things contradict each other, they can't all be true—until you talk about what happens when you die. At that point, anything is fair game as long as you believe sincerely.

But this is sincerely wrong, and I'll tell you why. Just as there are absolute truths in the physical world, there are absolute truths in the spiritual world, and what you decide about them determines how you will spend eternity.

Wait a minute, you might think. If there are absolute spiritual truths, does this mean that there are absolute spiritual lies?

Absolutely. All religions can't be right. Many of them contradict each other. Saying that there are many ways to God is the same as saying 2 + 2 = 4 or 5 or 15 or whatever you want it to.

The Big One
So the million-dollar question: Which one is right? Last time I checked, a person has nearly 300 religious options. Yikes! Can it get any more confusing than that?

That’s why many people just give up and give in to the lie that there are many ways to God. It's like taking a test that gives you 300 multiple-choice options: confusing and discouraging.

But look at the choices this way. What if you had a deadly disease and 300 doctors each telling you he had a different cure? The problem is that all these doctors contradict each other. I doubt you’d say, “They probably all lead to the same cure” and randomly choose one, hoping things will all work out. Instead, you’d most likely interview each doctor, spend hours online and get as much information as possible before you made a decision. Your life would depend on it.

Guess what. Your life does depend on it—your eternal life, that is. You do have a deadly disease called sin, and one day you are going to die. You have many contradictory options available to trust for eternal life. The good news is that one Man put all the contradictions to rest and proved that He was the right cure.

It wasn't Buddha, Mohammed or even Joseph Smith. You can gamble on them if you want to, but my spiritual trust is on the One who claimed to be God and the only way to heaven—and who then came back from the dead to prove that He knew what He was talking about.

One and Only
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Sort of exhausts the options, doesn't it? Makes them all contradictory. That's why when the disciples were ordered not to preach about Jesus, they basically told the authorities they had to. Why? “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12).

Jesus is the only way to heaven, and Christianity is the only religion based on grace, not works. According to other religions, you have to do something to earn salvation, paradise, Nirvana, whatever. Only Christianity is based on grace and faith.

Human beings are incredibly prideful by nature. This is one of the major reasons there are so many religions. People want to feel as if they did something to earn a cool afterlife. It is a very humbling thing to admit that you are a sinner and to put your whole trust in someone else’s hands as your only hope of salvation. Most people won't give up their pride, so they plug in to whatever religion feeds their ego. The problem is that billions of people will die with great self-esteem and a one-way ticket to hell.

Which reminds me: Have you checked the destination on your ticket lately? If it says anything other than "Jesus, the only way to heaven," it's a fake. The only absolute formula that works is this:

Faith in Jesus + His death on the cross + nothing else = heaven. logo
