HOW SHOULD I WITNESS TO MY FRIENDS?
How can you witness to a friend? Mike gives some tips.

by Michael Ross

HEY MIKE! I need help. I have a couple of friends who don’t know Christ. How should I witness to them?

— N.H., Lansing, Mich.

Here are four key things that you can do:

1. Pray for them everyday. In Romans 9:1-3, Paul wrote that he cared so much about his unbelieving friends that he would be willing to exchange places with them and actually go to hell so that they could be with Jesus in heaven. Imagine having that kind of compassion for others! As for your friends, love them enough to pray for them. Ask Christ to open their eyes and hearts to receiving the truth.

2. Tell them why you follow Christ. As with all friends, you probably talk about a lot of stuff that’s important to you. (Stuff like sports, music, girls.) When the moment seems right, tell them why you committed your life to Jesus. Then ask a few questions:

What things in life are most important to you?

Do you believe that God created the universe? Why or why not?

Do you believe in life after death?

3. Invite them to Christian events. Your youth group probably has a number of activities that involve an outing (such as a ski trip), as well as a speaker who presents an evangelistic message. Ask your friends to join you.

4. Be an example. Living a double life is a surefire way to blow your witness — especially to a nonChristian. Remember, your friends are watching you. Make every effort to walk your talk and live what you believe. logo
