MY MOM IS MESSING UP
What do you do when your mom is making negative choices? Mike gives some answers.

by Michael Ross

HEY MIKE! Just after my parents got divorced, my mom started acting different. She has been hanging out at clubs and smoking—which I really got on her about. What should I do?

You’re in a tough situation—one that no guy should deal with alone. Here’s what I urge you to do:

1. Find a trusted Christian adult to talk with: an uncle, a pastor, a school counselor. You need the perspective of an older person, as well as someone who can get your mom the help she needs.

2. Don’t give up on her. While it’s hard when our parents let us down, staying open and talking through these circumstances is the best thing you can do. Closing down and allowing bitterness to grow between you and your mom is one of the worst things that can happen. Approach her with love and respect, and don’t stop reaching out.

3. Seek God. Tell Him how angry and scared you feel right now. Pray for both parents, especially your mom. And above all, hold on to God’s promise to see you through this: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:18).

I’m praying for you. If you’re able, drop me a line and let me know how things turn out for you and your family.  logo
