LEELAND: WALKING AN OPPOSITE WAY
The band talks about it's latest album and why different is OK.

by Erin Prater

“Different is OK!”—especially when standing strong for God. At least, that’s what alternative rockers Leeland believe. And this faithful fivesome is challenging Breakaway guys to be a powerful force for God. “The Lord will accomplish amazing things through a heart that’s fully committed to Him,” lead singer Leeland Mooring says.

BREAKAWAY: Tell us about Opposite Way.

Jack Mooring (keyboard): It’s kind of scary [making your second record]. But God just dropped a lot of songs in our lap. We consider this whole record a calling to our generation to passionately walk the opposite way the world’s walking. It’s OK to be different. It’s OK to be on fire for God even though it will make you stand out.

Do you have a favorite track?

Leeland: “Do Not Be Simple,” that’s one of my favorites. It talks about longing for the presence of God to come back and miracles and awesome stuff—the fullness of God entering where you’re at. It’s the hunger for that.

I’m excited to see what the church’s response is on this one, especially young guys’ response. I couldn’t imagine what would happen if one high school, like 10 guys, got together and really, really sought the Lord and just tried to live for God; how big of a change that would make in their school. Even if just one kid did, you know. That’s what we’re excited about. That’s what we want to see our generation coming to. logo
